Wow! 19 members of Y4C celebrated meeting their weekly reading target in the sunshine on the last day of term. The children enjoyed putting some of the school’s new fitness equipment to the test as a reward for reading (at least) three times a week at home.
Keep up the fantastic work everyone. Remember to aim for four times a week this half term!
A huge congratulations to Jay Collins (Y6D) and Joe Roberts (Y6F) for their amazing achievement of reading over one million words on Accelerated Reader. They have been awarded with a trophy engraved with their names and a book of their choice as a prize. Well done Jay and Joe!
We had our first sports visitor of the year last week when Michael from Durham C.C. came in to work with children in Years 1-4. All the children had a fantastic time learning new skills. 
Y4L have been lucky this year to have some French pen-pals from Noisy-le-Sec, near Paris. We have sent Christmas cards, Easter cards and some letters about ourselves, we have found out some information about our French pen-pals and they wrote to tell us about their Epiphany celebrations after Christmas.
We are so excited to receive some more letters before the Summer holidays!
As part of Year 4’s Geography topic about Water this half term, our classes were visited by Mr Robson, a civil engineer.
We found out why water from lakes and reservoirs needs to be treated before it can be used for drinking, and the processes it must go through in a water treatment works. Talking about water for health was very interesting to us, and we also discussed how things like wipes or fatty liquids should not be flushed down the toilet or kitchen sink. We now know that chlorine is added at the chlorination stage to disinfect the water as it travels through pipes, and that we are drinking the same water that the dinosaurs drank, because of the water cycle!
Our new display boards in the Community Room have been populated with the work of our hardworking pupils.
Y4L were learning that there are rules for visiting the allotment in order to keep it a safe and rewarding experience for everyone.
We agreed that we should always walk in the allotment, wear gloves when litter picking or digging the soil, and act respectfully towards the environment.
We had a great time exploring!
We are delighted to support South Tyneside Council in their commitment to raising awareness of climate change in the borough. Their toolkit will support staff in teaching our pupils about environmental awareness and climate change.

They work so hard, even sometimes during breaks and lunchtimes to ensure that our Accelerated Reader library is kept tidy and organised. They return books and re-shelf books which our children have finished reading and can even recommend a wide range of books for you to read. Why not ask them for some help if you can’t find a particular book? Or for a book recommendation?
Allotment Club have been preparing the soil in the raised beds for seedlings. We have been planting spinach, beetroot and salad leaves.
