Year 4 have loved learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We thought about how their religious beliefs changed over time and the different roles they had in society. We had great fun looking at the punishments for different crimes that were committed during that time. It was great to visit Jarrow Hall too. We looked at the farm and the village, thinking about what life was like then. We also made our own runes and participated in a battle!
We’ve been looking at our first science topic of electricity. We know that electricity is a type of energy. We’ve worked hard to construct our own simple circuits with different components. Using this knowledge, we’ve investigated the effect of adding different numbers of components to circuits. We can’t wait to use this knowledge in Design and Technology when we make our own circuit games!
The first artist we’ve studied this year is the French artist, Henri Matisse. We looked at how his artwork evolved over time. After experimenting with sketching, painting and collage, we made our own self-portraits inspired by his work.

We recognise the importance of widening our children’s vocabulary.
Every day our children are given a “Word of the day” from Vocabulary Ninja.
Children read the word, the definition and they are given the opportunity to apply it to a sentence.

Year 4 have been working extremely hard to improve their Reading Plus levels. We have been so excited to share with you some of our successes from completing our reading lessons. Some of us have received silver or bronze combo awards and some of us have moved up levels. We are looking forward to reading more stories and progressing through our levels.
We are planting wildflower seeds to create more areas for our pollinators, and reusing water from our water butt, and milk containers as watering cans.
