Last half term, we started created podcasts based on Roald Dahl’s story The Witches. We had to think about the structure of our podcast, ensuring there was an introduction, main topic and then conclusion. We edited out any long pauses or hesitations as well as adding music at the beginning and end. We hope you enjoy them!
Well done to our latest batch of Half Millionaires and Word Millionaires! More fantastic achievements and they really show our children’s love of reading.
Congratulations to Erin and Mia in Year 6 who are our latest Word Millionaires.
Mia is really enjoying reading the Wizard of Once series by Cressida Cowell. Mia says they’re very good books, they’re not too simple and she says they challenge her as a reader which she enjoys.
Erin is a huge fan of David Walliams’ books and she picked Robodog as her Millionaire prize. Erin says they’re not too difficult to read, she can read them so quickly because she enjoys them so much and she says they’re very funny.
We had a fantastic time exploring Ancient Egyptian life with the help of our visitor, Richard.
Our favourite part of the day was learning about the process of mummification. We worked together to wash the pharaoh’s body before putting his stomach, liver, lungs and intestines into canopic jars to preserve them. We loved wrapping the body with linen bandages and were thrilled to be able to do this to our friends!
We also enjoyed playing a game that the Ancient Egyptians would have played. It involved a lot of strategic thinking.
Today we celebrated the coronation of King Charles. Across the school the children have been finding out about King Charles and the history of coronations. We came to school dressed in red, white and blue then had our own coronation party!
Congratulations to our Reader’s of the Month for April.
The theme for this month was being responsible. The staff looked carefully at the children who take good care of our books, library spaces and return their books regularly; taking responsbility for their own progress in reading.
A special mention goes to Sapphire and Harry from Y5 for making 2 years of progress on their STAR reading assessment this month.
An extra special mention to Jude in Y5 who has made PHENOMENAL progress of 4 years in his reading age. He now has a reading age of 15 years 6 months! WOW

In maths, we’ve been developing our knowledge of fractions. We can convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers! We’ve found bar models really useful to help us understand subtracting fractions from whole numbers and mixed numbers.
Well done to all of our Reader’s of the Month for March.
The children have impressed their teachers with their excellent effort in Reading and have made amazing progress and improvements.

Stephen in Y3 who has improved his AR scores and now has an average of 93% in his quizzes.
Imogen from Y5 who has impressed her teacher with her wonderful attitude to reading by choosing challenging texts and pushing herself.
Lydia in Y2 for her perserverance in reading, she has made fantastic progress and her speedy reading has improved greatly this month!
Year 4’s latest science topic was all about sound. We’ve discovered that sounds are produced by an object vibrating.
Did you know that bigger vibrations produce louder sounds whereas smaller vibrations produce quieter sounds? Did you also know that faster vibrations produced higher pitched sounds.
We then used this knowledge to design and make our own musical instruments!
Check out some of our new books for our libraries. After the children identified that they would like more comics and graphic novels, more have been purchased for the children to enjoy.

Year 4 have just begun their new topic – All Around the World. In our first lesson, we looked at world maps and located different countries. We were able to identify places in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. We researched a chosen country to find out more about it. Next lesson we will look at lines of longitude and latitude.
