Year 3 and 4 were given the challenge to help their grown-up to complete a household job. I am sure you will agree that they have been extremely helpful.
Year 3 have been working extremely hard this week learning all about the rainforest. They have been drawing rainforest animals, creating poems, making posters and comparing lives of people who live in a rainforest with our own families. Well done to everyone who joined in our rainforest tasks.
At Harton Primary school the children are not the only ones who LOVE reading! We all do…so we thought we would put the children to the test and see if they can identify us by our favourite books!
Why not have a go for yourself? How well do you know us?
Look at our fab, happy faces made from items found in the house or garden! Which face is your favourite?
Our challenge for day 2 was to have a disco and dance to your favourite songs. It looks like the all enjoyed themselves and Year 3 definitely have some impressive moves!
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all keeping well. Just an update on the Musical activities that the children have been undertaking at Harton so far this year.
Each Year group has access to new music software called ‘Charanga’. There are hundreds of modern songs and each scheme enables children to use musical instruments to accompany their compositions.
In Year 3, the children have been learning how to play the Djembe drums. They have learned how to follow patterns, understand the connection between ‘tempo’ and ‘pulse’ and maintain a steady beat. They have been doing so well!
In Year 4, Mr Bird has been teaching the children how to play the keyboard. They have learned basic key notation and how to play some simple melodies. It is sounding great!
Year 5 children have been working with a teacher from South Tyneside’s Music Hub called Rhys. Two classes in Year 5 so far have been using the Ipads to create music on an app called ‘GarageBand’. The children are shown how to compose a simple beat pattern and then add in other instruments. They explore a different range of tempo and sequences and create a ‘layered’ piece of music that even the best DJ artists would be proud of!
Here are some examples of the music the children in Year 5 composed, using the app ‘GarageBand’
A selection of Year 6 children have had the opportunity to learn a brass instrument with Mr. Storey in a small group setting. They have learned basic notation, some more complex pieces of music and are beginning to learn how to read music.
Every Year group has Singing with Mr. Richardson where they practise songs for a concert which is performed for all parents. These sessions are vital for children to learn the correct pitch, tempo and harmonies required in each song.
We hope this gives an insight into all the wonderful music which is taking place as we continue to promote the Arts here at Harton.
Y3 have been looking at the UK and which rivers flow through it. We have been learning how to use co-ordinates to find rivers and then follow them to see which Sea they flow into.
We then moved onto finding out the difference between a Country and a County. We looked at different counties throughout the UK then focused on our own County ‘Tyne and Wear’ to find out what is local to us, what we are famous for and which rivers pass through our County.
Our favourite celebrities of course were Ant and Dec!
Y3 have been set a project by their teachers this week to research and create an information booklet of different Rainforests around the world – particularly looking at the meaning of deforestation, the animals, plants and habitats.
Today Mrs Langley set them all a Challenge as part of their Rainforest afternoon project…
Watch this space for pictures produced by our fabulous Y3 children at home of their favourite Rainforest animal!
We are loving the enthusiasm of all our Children and Parents – Thank You and we hope your enjoying your daily challenges!
Year 3’s first challenge was to draw and colour an animal from a rainforest. These are some of the fabulous drawings. We also had a fab effort from one of our year 5 students who wanted to join in the challenge. Well done everyone!
Year 3 got up to so much fun and learning during History week!
We had a visit from Doctor Bath, she came to teach us all about the Stone Age. We created a timeline that went from present day all the way back to the Stone Age times, it stretched right around our classroom! We then created cave painting using chalk and our fingers which was the only materials of that time. After that we looked at different artefacts and made predictions about what they would have been used for.
Later in the week, Archaeosoup came to visit us to help us learn more about the Stone Age. Marc taught us what life would be like in the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic times and we were able to look and feel some artefacts from those times.
