Y2L had a lovely time celebrating the Queen’s platinum jubilee. We loved having our grown ups in to help us decorate our teachers that we wore for our jubilee party day.
Y2L thoroughly enjoyed their Great Fire of London workshop. They played lots of games and used drama to act out the historical event.
This week in Y2L, we investigated the properties of materials. Our task was to identify the best material to make a boat for Toby to cross the river away from the Great Fire of London. We had lots of fun observing closely and recording our results.
This year Hadrian’s Wall is celebrating its 1900th anniversary. Years 1 to 6 took part in online workshops delivered by Tyne and Wear Museums as part of their ‘Virtual Hadrian’s Wall Day’.
We are working on a very exciting project in school. We have all been learning about Hadrian’s Wall and every child has made their own ‘fact brick’. We look forward to sharing the finished project with you soon!
Here are some pictures of our bricks. Can you guess what we are building?
The children from reception to year 6 love lunchtime club. Have a look at our photos and see what we have been up to this half term.
We had a fantastic time when Richard, That History Bloke came to visit to help us learn all about George Stephenson. We took part in a True or False game and compared photos to help find out about George growing up. Then, we looked at his inventions, including the Geordie Lamp and The Rocket locomotive. We even made our own candles that miners used to use and created clay models of The Rocket.
In Science this week, Y2L have been looking at microhabitats. We decided to go on a mini-beast hunt around the school, looking for different microhabitats where living things may be surviving. It was fantastic observing all of the mini-beasts and thinking about why they were suited to their environment.
This month we were very excited to be able to celebrate our Reader’s of the month on World Book Day! The children have been chosen because of their fantastic achievements in Reading at school and at home.
