Today we jumped back into the medieval times! We learnt all about Knights and even tried on some of their special armour. Reception explored the people who lived in the castle and had lots of fun making their own gingerbread with pitta breads, honey and ginger.
We love reading in Reception and had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day!
Which characters can you spot?
Today we have been sent some fantastic work completed by our Reception children.

Some of our children have also dressed up as superheroes!

We hope all of the Reception children have a lovely half term!
We look forward to seeing you all soon 🙂
Good Morning Reception. Last day before half term!
Today would have been our Superhero Party to celebrate all of the local superheroes in South Shields but don’t worry we will still celebrate on the 4th of March on World Book Day.
Todays activities are:
Reading
We bet you are amazing at reading your home reading book now! Please choose another book to read to your adult. If you get stuck, ask your adult for help! If you can read the words with ease, can your adult ask you questions about the story? We will send a red and green choice via Marvellous Me.
Writing
Which superhero were you going to come to school dressed as today? Put on your costume and send us a photograph, we would love to see them!
Write about the superhero you are dressed as.
You could write: I am a police officer. I am strong. I am helpful. I am big and proud.
Maths
How many different ways can you make 8? Use the part whole model to help you. Move the superheroes into each part. Can you write a number story to show all of the different ways you find?
Topic
Decorate, cut and create decorations for our postponed Superhero Party. You can bring these decorations into school after half term and we will display them in the classroom when we celebrate the end of our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic. Check Marvellous Me for a bunting and paper chain template!
Thank you for sharing so much home learning with us yesterday! We are so impressed.
Please email [email protected] to share photographs and proud learning moments with your child today.
Look at some of our Reception children’s fantastic home learning! We are so proud of their work 🙂

Toffee Bear brought us all a first aid certificate from Grumbles and Tumbles. All of Reception have completed basic first aid skills. We know how to keep ourselves safe from dangers and how to help others.
Good Morning Reception! What a windy day it is today!
Today’s home learning activities are:
Reading
Read your home reading book with your adult. See if you can read the words using ‘Fred in your head’. Can you recall the characters and objects in the story?
Writing
Listen to the story of the week ‘Kindness is my Superpower’.
Can you write about your superpowers? What can you do really well?
You could write: I can hop. I can sing. I can wink. I can jump high. I can run fast and and shout loud.
Maths
This week we have been combining two groups to find out how many we have altogether. You have been writing amazing number stories!
Can you find the answer to these number stories?
3+2=
4+3=
1+6=
4+4=
5+0=
You could use fingers, teddies, toy cars, pencils, any objects from your house to help you count.
Topic
Tomorrow will hopefully be our Superhero Party. We would like you to make a thank you card for a real superhero in our local community. If you return these cards to school we will send them to our local heroes in South Shields.
Please share your home learning successes and photographs with us via the Reception email.
Thank you to our parents for your continued support and we look forward to seeing your SUPER work!
Take a look at our superhero cities. We are so proud of them! First we mixed black with our blue paint and it made the colour darker. Then we used squares and rectangles to create our tall and short buildings. Finally we added some superhero words. We came up with POW, BOOM, CRASH, SMASH and ZAP!
The children in Reception had a special visit from Northumbria Police. We have been learning all about superheroes in the local community. We were very excited to find out how the police keep us safe, stranger danger and what to do in an emergency.
Reception have been using the part-whole model to explore the composition of 4! We recorded our findings in a number story once we found out which smaller numbers make 4.
