Another huge congratulations to Harry in Y6, our first Word Millionaire of the year., What a fantastic achievement – well done Harry!

Harry likes to read long, fiction books and some of his favourite authors include J.K. Rowling, David Walliams and Philip Pullman.

Congratulations to our Reader’s of the Month who were chosen for their attitude towards Reading and taking care of our books and library spaces.

 

A special shout out to Harry in Y6 who is our first Word Millionaire of the year!, How amazing!

Well done to Amelia in Y6 who takes excellent care of our library, spending playtimes and lunchtimes organising the shelves and helping others.

We are also very proud of Hallie in Y3, Archie in Y4 and Scarlett from Y1, who make an extra effort to read at home and take great care of our books.

Half Millionaire

24th November 2023D Fawkes

Congratulations to Isla in Y6 who is our second Half Millionaire this academic year.

Isla has been reading the ‘Series of Unfortunate Events’ books and is now onto the 9th book in the series: The Carnivorous Carnival and she plans to finish the series in the hope of becoming a Word Millionaire soon.

Congratulations to our first Accelerated Reading Award Winner of 2023/2024.

Harry in Y6 has become our first Half Millionaire of the year. A fantastic achievement so early on into the academic year and we have no doubt he will be a Word Millionaire very soon.

Reader of the Month- September 2023

This school year has started with some fantastic reading achievements and we could not wait to celebrate our Readers of the month. Staff looked out for the children who go above and beyond to read in school and at home. Their effort in reading has not gone unnoticed and we are so proud of them.

Special mentions to:

  • Freyja in Y2 for reading her red tricky words well with Mrs Jay.
  • Lewis In Y3 who has made a super effort to quiz independetly when using AR.
  • Charlotte in Y5 who reads every single night and has already achieved her AR target!

Using dictionaries in Year 6

25th September 2023D Fawkes

We are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo this half term in Y6.

When reading Chapter 4, the children discovered a lot of unfamiliar vocabulary. They spent a lesson identifying those words and then using the dictionary app on an iPad as well as dictionary books to find the definitions of words and then writing sentences of our own with them. The children also found antonyms and synonyms of each word.

In today’s world we know we can use technology to find a lot of information but we all recognised the importance of knowing how to use a dictionary book.

The children identified words such as ‘mellifluous‘, ‘impenetrable‘, ‘crescendo‘, ‘surreptitious‘.

We always want to improve on our vocabulary set and apply new words to our writing so we are looking forward to including such words in our future writing.

Reader of the Month – July 2023

Once again we got the chance to celebrate all the fantastic reading achievements at our school. This month staff were asked to look out for readers who ‘set a good example’ and found it extremely hard to choose just one fantastic pupil from each class!

The children chosen this month have impressed us with their effort, performance and progress in reading.

Special shoutouts for:

Rori in Y1 who has returned her reading book every single week this year!

Isla In Y2 for a super effort in reading lessons and working really well with her partner.

Ava in Y5F for reading 6 books in a week and scoring over 96% on her quizes each time.

Daniel in Y5 for challenging himself in school and at home when reading.

Reader of the Month- May

May has been a really busy month in school but the children have still found time to impress staff with their excellent reading.

This month we were on the look out for children who have a great attitude to reading and make an extra effort with their home reading.

A special mention to Lucas in Year 1 who not only has a great attitude to reading he helps his little sister too by teaching her how to read!

Well done to Sienna in Year 4 who reading extra books at home as well as her home readers!

Lastly to Jack in Year 6 who reads so regularly at home he has become a word millionaire!

Well done to our latest batch of Half Millionaires and Word Millionaires! More fantastic achievements and they really show our children’s love of reading.

Congratulations to Erin and Mia in Year 6 who are our latest Word Millionaires.

Mia is really enjoying reading the Wizard of Once series by Cressida Cowell. Mia says they’re very good books, they’re not too simple and she says they challenge her as a reader which she enjoys.

Erin is a huge fan of David Walliams’  books and she picked Robodog as her Millionaire prize. Erin says they’re not too difficult to read, she can read them so quickly because she enjoys them so much and she says they’re very funny.

Reader of the Month- April

5th May 2023P Mullea

Congratulations to our Reader’s of the Month for April.

The theme for this month was being responsible.  The staff looked carefully at the children who take good care of our books, library spaces and return their books regularly; taking responsbility for their own progress in reading.

A special mention goes to Sapphire and Harry from Y5 for making 2 years of progress on their STAR reading assessment this month.

An extra special mention to Jude in Y5 who has made PHENOMENAL progress of 4 years in his reading age. He now has a reading age of 15 years 6 months! WOW

We hope the children enjoy their new books. Keep up the hard work.
