Year 5 and Year 6 competed in a South Tyneside gymnastics competition at Temple Park.
We all had a fantastic day. One Year 6 team came second, Abi came 3rd in the Open Floor competition and Toni won the ‘Design a leotard’ competition. Well done everyone!
Year 4 have been awarded Toffee the Attendance Award bear two weeks in a row now!
Y4S and Y4R have loved having Toffee’s new pals in their classroom as well – Baba yaga from Poland, and Norton the turkey…from Turkey! In assembly, Miss Chipchase read the whole school a traditional tale about Baba yaga the witch, from Polish and Russian folklore.
We’re going to try to learn a little bit of Polish and Turkish so we can greet the whole school in another language. Hopefully, we won’t forget what to say when we link by Skype, with a school in Turkey!

Easter Praise.
Today, Year 4 took a trip to Africa and visited the very busy African market. This term, we have been looking at stories from a different culture including Gregory Cool and Grace and Family (which we have just started today). In the story, Grace visits a traditional African market, which the children had the chance to experience today.
They looked at photos and videos of an African market, they tried fruit juices including: apple, mango, orange, orange and mango and a tropical punch. They also looked at a range of spices discussing the bright vibrant colours and the unusual smells that filled the market. The children also got the chance to try a range of African foods including: Mango, pineapple, sweet potatoes, spicy rice, plain rice, couscous, green and red peppers, pomegranate, and salsa.
The children will be using their experience from today to write a description of the market using the writing devices we have been looking this term!
These Year 1 children have been having great fun with Becki from Lingotot. They’ve been learning some new French vocabulary, songs and producing artwork on the theme of parts of the body (Mon corps).

Toffee is quite literally, going to be broadening his horizons over the next few weeks! In conjunction with the British Council, our school will be linking up with other schools around the world, by sending and receiving our school mascots.
Each school mascot will be jetting off to various locations around the globe, with the recipient schools taking photographs of the mascot around their school, on school visits, and to local landmarks. An international mascot diary will also be completed by the pupils, to document the exciting activities the mascot will have been involved in, within each host school.
We can’t wait to receive our first mascot – it will begin its adventure by visiting the class with the best attendance. During our weekly Attendance Awards assembly, we will catch up with the mascot, and learn about the school and country it’s from.
All the children in Year 2 have been learning Irish Dancing as part of their P.E. curriculum.

This half term Year Two have been leaning all about Mexico. We have learned lots of facts and compared Mexico with South Shields.
In Art we even made paper mache masks and decorated them.
Today we have tasted Mexican foods such as sour cream dip, tomato salsa and Guacamole along with Doritos and Taco shells. We enjoyed the sour cream dip, the Salsa, the Doritos. We didn’t really enjoy guacamole as it tasted like vegetables!
