We have had so much fun improving our writing through performance. The children have written some excellent poems about the Great Fire of London. Today we performed them and the children made improvements to their writing based on their performance. We had a fantastic time!
Y2E had a brilliant time on our Heritage Walk on Monday. We found out about theatres in South Shields and we were excellent historians. We looked at clues to find out about the past.
Y2A were very excited to take part in a ‘History of Theatres’ walk around South Shields with history and theatre specialists. The children walked from the Pier Pavillion to the Customs House. They completed activities along Ocean Road, King Street and at the Word. The walk ended at the Customs House where the children took part in activities that allowed them to showcase their new knowledge, which was very impressive!
Can you spot your Beauty and the Beast drawing? Some excellent drawings from our school have been chosen to feature in the pop up art gallery at the Customs House.
All of the children have worked together to recreate the Christmas story and have retold the story in their own words. The children have been very proud of their work that has been showcased and displayed around school.
Wellbeing Club have been making some mindfulness baubles to send to a school in Malaga. We are looking forward to receiving baubles too!
Year 2 enjoyed our visit from Kim Johnstone, who taught us about the Jewish faith and the festival of Hannukah. We learnt about the synagogue and tried to speak a little bit of Hebrew. She was very impressed with how knowledgeable the children in Year 2 are!
Armedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) was an Italian artist. He is famous for painting his self-portraits and portraits with long, slender necks and faces. We have been inspired by his works of art.
Miss Cook came back to visit us in Year 1 after her month long visit to Kenya. She had been a volunteer teacher at a school there and wanted to share details of her fantastic experience with us. She saw zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions and hippos while on a safari there. At break times, the pupils ate cooked sweet potato or corn on the cob. Miss Cook brought a Kenyan worry doll and a Masai warrior robe to show us. Lots of our pupils seem keen on going on travel adventures just like Miss Cook.
A local theatre company performed ‘Ti Jean and his Goat’ for us in a mixture of English and
French.
