This week, we found out about the continent South America. The biggest country in South America is Brazil. We celebrated the Rio Carnival by designing and decorating amazing masks! We listened to the sounds of the carnival so we could pretend we were there.
Mr Bird has been teaching Samba drums to Year 1 children, playing them in an African style.
Perhaps the children will use their new skills in their performance this Easter.
Year 3 had a great reason to put their informal letter writing skills to the test recently. They teamed up with Scuola Primaria San Biagio in Italy, and were soon receiving letters and Easter cards from the children there. So, Year 3 replied, writing some fabulous letters containing all sorts of interesting information, and creating some lovely posters on Purple Mash learning platform.
Children from a school in Brno, which is the second largest city in the Czech Republic, are also corresponding with us. They’ve sent us some letters, an Easter powerpoint presentation and some Easter cards. We hope they like the class card that Y4R made them. Vesele Velikonoce!
Reception had a super time learning about Diwali! The traditional dances, foods, clothing, art and traditions were a big hit!
Reception have been celebrating Chinese New Year, and learning about Chinese culture through tradition, foods, art, and clothing. You can see they had a wonderful time!
Year 3 and 4 joined an Etwinning project run by the British Council to communicate with a school in the Czech Republic, and a school in Italy.
First, the children all wrote letters to introduce themselves to one another. After that, the Year 3 children made posters about Easter traditions to send to the pupils in Italy.
They received some lovely Easter cards in return, with greetings written in Italian.
Our Year 4 children put on an incredible Easter performance for everyone at Harton Methodist Church. The concert was called ‘Easter Praise’ and it lived up to expectations! Everyone had an important role to play, and what made it so special, was that the children all had smiles on their faces and were genuinely having a great time. The staff all agreed that the singing was superb, and that some children may be destined for a career on the stage!
We were made to feel most welcome at the church, and look forward to returning again sometime.
Year Three visited The Baptist Tabernacle on Friday 22nd of January 2016, a second Church, to compare the similarities and differences between it and The Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 15th of January. Here we see the children looking at the how people are baptized.

Thursday 17th December saw the last Carol Concert by the current Year 6. As Miss Chipchase reminded parents, it only seems like five minutes since they were performing ‘Oops – A- Daisy Angel’ in their Reception classes. This time the script was written by the children themselves. and told the story of the Nativity through letters and news broadcasts.
The concert was held at Harton Methodist Church, which added to the magic of the occasion, and we give thanks to Reverend Debbie for allowing us to continue our community links with this church. It was well attended by parents and the children performed very professionally. Every word could be heard and the singing was ‘angelic’.

The children in Reception have shown what shining stars they really are, putting on a brilliant Christmas show this week. They have been working so hard and certainly made sure it was one to remember! All of the staff in Reception would like to thank you for your support in helping children to learn their parts. We must also say a big thank you to everyone who came along to see the show, we hope you are as proud of your children as we are!
