Year 4 have loved the start of our STEM week. This year, the theme Masterpiece links science, technology, engineering and maths to the arts. Today, the children have started to explore different ways that hobbies and interests can be shared. They’ve been amazing builders, working collaboratively to construct a stage! They then thought about ways they could use technology to further improve the stage.
Today we prepared for our Team Event. We thought about what questions people may ask us e.g. Why did you create your model? How did you use the core values? How does the poster show your team journey? We worked as a team so that we were all confident in sharing our learning and celebrating our success. The Event went really well and everyone was impressed with our innovative ideas.
We were extremely happy to receive our well-deserved ‘build your own’ medal, lanyard and certificate.
Well done Year 2!
Places of the future.
Today the children were challenged to think about building a place where hobbies and interests are performed and shared with others. The children worked well in teams to create innovative designs which were also accessible to all.
Year 3 were so excited to start their team project today. We had to build a model that shows how technology helps us share what we love to do. After brainstorming our ideas, we worked together to get building and coding! We used core skills like inclusion, innovation and fun to work together as a team!
Over the week we have completed a range of ‘6 Brick’ challenges! This has provided opportunities for the children to develop many skills including creativity, communication, collaboration and team work.
Today Reception talked about different places we could host a show. Then we designed and built our own show using Lego. Next, we looked behind the scenes and talked about different jobs people might have at theatres, museums and galleries. After that, we build objects, tools and vehicles that the people doing these jobs might use. It was so much fun !!!
Who are the people who make a show happen?
Today we have thought about jobs people might do in when they make movies. We had lots of ideas.
We have worked with our friends to build objects, tools and vehicles that might be helpful to people who work on the stage or behind the scenes.
In today’s session we created a team model to showcase our chosen talents and interests. We explored how to use technology in creative ways and enjoyed adding motors, sensors and lighting to our builds. We used coding to make either the motor or light function on our models and tested the programmes to ensure the code did what we wanted it to do
STEM Week Day 3
Today the children discussed how to improve the experience of a performance through the use of visual effects and moving parts. They created a model vehicle and coded it to move forwards and backwards. They used this knowledge to begin planning their own project which would incorporate some movement. They discussed the various hobbies they have and thought about where they could showcase this and began to design their team project.

Year 1 were excited to continue our STEAM week! We talked about museums and what exhibits we might see. The children then worked together to build their own display for a museum.
We then moved on to building our own stage and creating a play. The children showed great communication and teamwork skills .
