Year 3 completed some inference work around these carved stone balls that were found by archaeologists many years ago. We discussed where we thought the object had come from, how long ago, and what it might have been used for.
After making our own inferences, we completed some research to try and find out a little more object these strange objects. We found that they are known as petrospheres, which is the name given to any round man-made object made of stone. They are around 4,000 years old and date to the late Neolithic or Bronze Age. No one knows for sure what these petrospheres were used for but we came up with lots of excellent ideas! We then used clay to make our very own petrosphere.
The children had a fantastic time visiting the Oriental Museum as part of our China topic. They used art, performance and team work to develop their understanding of China and retell the story of how Chinese New Year began.
Year 3 were thrilled to have ‘That History Bloke’ visit us to help us learn more about the Romans. Richard taught us what life would be like in the Roman period and in the Roman Army. We looked and handled some artefacts from those times and were able to dress up like a Roman, write in latin and play some games that would have been played.
