Congratulations to Jack (Y6A) who has read over 500,000 words on Accelerated Reader this academic year before we are even half way through the school year. We have no doubt that Jack will be a Word Millionaire very soon.
Well done Jack!

In Literacy this week, Year 3 worked in small groups to write and perform our own individual poems to the music of ‘What a wonderful world’ by Louis Armstrong. Our poems consisted of wonderful things in our lives. We focused on the following topics for our verses: special people in our lives, important moments and memories, examples of kindness and the environment and animals. As a class, we picked our favourite verse and discussed what we liked most about them. We are all very proud of our performances and our poems!
In Year 1 we are doing so well with our reading! To celebrate, we had a treat on Tuesday with a visit from Seven Stories.
Seven Stories are the National Centre for Children’s Books. As you can see from our photos, we had a fantastic time listening to new stories. You can find their Visitor Centre and Exhibitions in a beautiful listed building, over seven storeys, in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Take a look at the Books for Topics site for their December “Books We Love This Month”. This month’s recommendations are full of wonderful books linked to Christmas.

As part of our literacy topic, Year-6 have been studying Charles Dickens’ novel, A Christmas Carol. Last Wednesday, we took a trip to Middlesbrough Theatre to see it performed live. We had a really enjoyable day and the children’s exemplary behaviour was commented upon by several of the staff at the theatre. They were a credit to their families and their school and we’re very proud of them. Here are a couple of pictures below.

A huge congratulations to Harry in Y6A.
Harry has already read over 500,000 words on a Accelerated Reader and is now a Half Millionaire.
We are so proud of Harry and his enthusiasm towards reading.
Harry was the first child to become a Word Millionaire in Y5 last year. Will he be the first child in the school to achieve it this year?

Last week, the children in year 4 carried out research all about Katherine Johnson. She was a black American mathematician who was responsible for calculating some of the most important and famous space flight routes including the Project Mercury missions and the Apollo missions. We used our research to create biographies all about this inspiring figure in history.
