As there has been no improvement to the weather and icy conditions are forecast overnight, Harton Primary School will remain closed on Thursday 1st March.
World Book Day will be rescheduled for a future date.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the meeting on Wednesday 7th February. It was great to see so many of you there. We hope it helped to inform you about what to expect in the run-up to and during SATs week itself.

This half term in Y6 we have based all of our work in Literacy around tigers. We have read the famous William Blake poem “The Tyger” and we’ve used this to help us write our own rhyming poems.
We have explored lots of different charity adverts for endangered species and created our own charity posters highlighting the importance of the conservation of tigers and explaining why they are an endangered species.
In art we have also took great care to sketch images of tigers and we have added a variety of materials to our artwork. Before half term, we will be using all of the information we have learned about tigers to write our own non-chronological report about Bengal Tigers.
Fun Fact: Did you know that no tiger has the same stripes? Every tiger is different! Just like our fingerprints.
Our children arrived safely at Lumb Bank on Monday and it has been all go since then. Children have enjoyed spending time with authors in residence and will enjoy a visiting author on Thursday and a special guest that they might know already – Mrs Napier!
Children will have a week of being creative and tapping into the knowledge and enthusiasm of best-selling authors and poets like John Hegley and Jamila Gavin- it’s the trip of a lifetime.

In Science, Year 6 have been learning about living things and their habitats.
We have looked at different types of animals and how to classify them. In the last lesson, we looked at the parts of a flower. We discussed each part of a flower and how flowers are pollinated and dispersed.
Next, we will be looking at micro-organisms and performing an experiment with mold!
Just a quick reminder that the usual Friday Homework Club will be running from Friday 12th January, and also to add that there will an additional Homework Club running every Tuesday too.
Both clubs will run from 12.10 until around 12.35, when the children will go and have their lunch.
The aim of the club is to enable your child to be supported with homework they feel they may struggle with or to provided time for them to do their homework if they have a busy after-school life.
A member of the Year 6 teaching staff will always be available at each club to discuss any problems and support the pupils with their homework.
We hope to see lots of our Year 6 pupils taking advantage of these clubs.
Thank you to all who could come to Year 6’s final carol concert. The pupils performed brilliantly and I’m sure there were a few tears shed by those watching! It is amazing to think how much our Year 6 have grown since their first Nativity in Nursery. We are all very proud of them.

What an exciting week Year 6 have had. We hope you managed to catch us on BBC Look North on Monday evening.
Some of the children were interviewed and they discussed the importance of staying safe online. At the end of the week Y6F also had their class assembly. They told their parents all about the work that they have done this term and shared some of their work.
With only 2 weeks left until the end of the term, we are still working hard and we have lots to look forward to including our Y6 Christmas party (14th December) and our Christmas Carol Concert (21st December).
Year 6 have been reading the famous Victorian tale, ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. The children have written some amazing newspaper articles about Jacob Marley’s visit to Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve. They have used a variety of journalistic phrases to make their work authentic.

Each class, from nursery to Year 6, has been involved in planting trees delivered by
the Woodland Trust. We’ve planted them in our yard, in the far field and around the car park. It has been a wonderful opportunity for everyone to work as part of a team and to help the environment. Toffee even joined some of the children. Can you spot him?
We can’t wait to see the trees grow!
