Our pupils made some fabulous Christmas tree baubles to send to the children in Miss Lovatt’s new school in Spain. We wrote ‘Felize Navidad’ on some of them, which means Merry Christmas in Spanish. We are looking forward to receiving some traditional Spanish decorations soon.
Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Elizabeth the Storyteller. She shared with us her own version of the Christmas Story. She asked us how we would have felt at different points in the story, and asked questions to see if we had understood it. The Storyteller left us with some Story Stars to decorate and take home – that means we can become Storytellers ourselves when we hold a star.

Each class, from nursery to Year 6, has been involved in planting trees delivered by
the Woodland Trust. We’ve planted them in our yard, in the far field and around the car park. It has been a wonderful opportunity for everyone to work as part of a team and to help the environment. Toffee even joined some of the children. Can you spot him?
We can’t wait to see the trees grow!

WE LOVE READING!
Year 1 are enjoying our brand new books kindly sent to us from David Litchfield, a very talented author and illustrator. He sent us Earth, The Marvellous Moon Map, The Bear and the Piano, The Building Boy, Grandad’s Secret Giant and Little Miss Muffet. These are books are already our favourite reads. A special thank you from all of the cool kids at Harton Primary School.
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, Kalma Juniors visited some of our Year 1 pupils after school to take part in a yoga session. The children experienced sequences of yoga postures, breathing and mindfulness for them to use in everyday life situations.
This year’s anti-bullying week got off to a fantastic start with our school’s involvement in Odd Sock Day , organised by the Anti-bullying Alliance.
First, the children were involved in an assembly, where their views on how they are kept safe in school and suggestions for developing this further were taken into account.
After taking some ‘creative’ photographs of the vast array of children’s socks, we talked about being unique – All Different, All Equal.
We will be entering our photographs in an Odd Socks Day Competition on Twitter – we are proud to be All different and All Equal.
Nexus visited Year 1 to help us stay safe on our local transport.
Year 1 have had lots of fun learning about Harvest. They explored Tesco in Sunderland and found out where their food comes from. At school, we used some of the harvested vegetables to make soup.
With so many autumn fruits and vegetables all around us at this time of year, we thought it would be nice to taste some traditional harvest foods from two different places, and learn about their harvest festival traditions and ethos.
