Year 4 explore Ancient Egypt

We had a fantastic time exploring Ancient Egyptian life with the help of our visitor, Richard.

Our favourite part of the day was learning about the process of mummification. We worked together to wash the pharaoh’s body before putting his stomach, liver, lungs and intestines into canopic jars to preserve them. We loved wrapping the body with linen bandages and were thrilled to be able to do this to our friends!

We also enjoyed playing a game that the Ancient Egyptians would have played. It involved a lot of strategic thinking.

 

 

 

 

Celebrating the King’s Coronation

Today we celebrated the coronation of King Charles III. We took part in different coronation activities, found out facts about our new King and made our own crowns. Everyone wore red, white and blue and the best part was our celebration party!

This week in Reception, we have been learning about the coronation of King Charles III. We took part in activities covering many areas of the curriculum.

In History, we learned facts about King Charles and found out what a coronation was. We watched the coronation of the King’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

In Literacy, we wrote facts about King Charles.

In Geography, we learned about the commonwealth and looked at the commonwealth countries on a map.

In Art and DT, we made decorations for our classroom and designed flags to represent all of the commonwealth countries. We even had a go at drawing King Charles!

In ICT, we used Google Earth to look at Great Britain and the commonwealth countries. We were very excited to see our school!

 

 

 

Week 6- History Club

This week in History Club, we found out about the Anglo-Saxons. We talked about the local monastic sites Jarrow and Monkwearmouth. We were surprised to discover that the earliest coloured glass in Britain was discovered here and dates back to the 7th century.
We then found out about the amazing site of Sutton Hoo and made our own Anglo-Saxon helmets.

Week 5- History Club

This week in History club we have been learning about the Iron Age. The children remembered many facts from their Iron Age topic earlier this year and they were able to talk about what life would have been like in Iron Age Britain. We then made our very own roundhouses!

Week 4- History Club

This week in history club we continued to learn about the Ancient Egyptians. We painted the scarab beetles we made last week. We then made our own peg mummies and decorated a sarcophagus.

Week 3 – History Club

This week we talked about the Ancient Egyptians and the amazing discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. We turned our friends into Egyptian mummies and then made our Scarab beetles using clay.

That History Bloke visits Year 2

This half term we are learning all about George Stephenson, why he is a significant individual and why he was known as the ‘Father of the Railway’.  To help us with our learning, That History Bloke visited us. We used role play, viewed artefacts and played games to learn facts about him and made mining candles and clay models of George’s locomotive, ‘The Rocket’.

 

Year 2 visit Beamish

Year 2 loved their trip to Beamish in Autumn term to help with their history topic, Coal mining. We found out what life was like living in a mining village during the Victorian times by visiting the mine, exploring the pit village and taking part in a Victorian class lesson.
