Environmental Awareness Evidence
The children have had a fantastic week learning about renewable energy and exploring different ways of making energy. They have worked in teams and have created their own energy stories. We celebrated our successful week with a certificate and a prize of 6 bricks for each pupil.
Y3 have shown amazing skills this week in resilience, teamwork and inclusion and innovation! We have worked hard to design, create, test and showcase our final models and we are super proud of our achievements!
Today we used coding to make either the motor or light function on our models and tested the programmes to ensure the code did what we wanted it to do.
Then, we worked together with our teams to create a poster to show our learning journey this week. We needed to make sure we including the headings explore, create, test, share, core values and team journey. We each completed a section and put them together to make visual appealing posters about our teams ideas and creations. Team work really does make the dream work!
We built on yesterday’s work to test out our team models and identify any problems. We then shared ideas to see if we could solve them. It was important to collaborate and listen carefully to each other. This also applied to our coding. We then started working on our team posters to tell other teams about our idea and the journey our team has gone on this week. We can’t wait to share them tomorrow! Today the children were set another exciting task to build their own creation that represented energy source, disruption or consumption. Take a look at our masterpieces!
Today we have been looking at electric cars and future energy.
We looked at electric cars and talked about how they get charged and work. We then built different electric vehicles and a ramp that would hold the electric car.
We then talked about renewable energy and how this could help us in the future. The children came up with some outstanding ideas.
Today we continued to make fairground rides using our Lego. We found out about electric cars and how they work. Then we used our Lego to make electric cars and ramps for them to travel down. We used our six bricks to make a tower, balancing our Lego bricks carefully.
Today the children were set another exciting task to build a robot and use code to move it in different directions. The teams were challenged to direct their robot vehicle around the mat and travel on an energy journey from energy source to the consumer.
The next task was to work as a team and create a model for a better energy journey for their community. We investigated the local area and discussed how we could use renewable energy to innovate an energy consumer.

Today we have used our Lego to make fairground rides with moving parts. We have been investigating the energy story in our own community and finding out about the different jobs of people who work in the supply of energy. We had lots of fun making our own electrical items and powering them with our wind turbine!
Year 1 have had a busy week!
We have discovered energy sources, thought about how we store energy and about how we distribute energy.
Today we have been exploring moving rides, such as those you would find at the fair or in the park. How would our rides connect to the energy supply?
