On Tuesday afternoon, some of our school councillors were working hard in our allotment. We were busy tidying our raised beds and turning over the soil, ready for planting. With the help of some of our amazing parent helpers, we were able to tidy our poly tunnel too. All of this is in preparation for an exciting project in the new year! We are so happy to have the opportunity to work with Kaye and Danielle from Williby Rocs CIC. They are going to be helping us to develop our allotment and make super links to our science lessons. A big thank you again to Ian, Jack, Angie, Valerie and Kaye for lending a hand on Tuesday. Here are some photos from the afternoon.
The School Council were thrilled to help the foodbank with unpacking and sorting all of your Canny Friday donations. The children carefully labelled the canned foods and dried goods with their use-by dates on a recent visit to Key to Life. They enjoyed asking the foodbank’s volunteers some carefully thought through questions and were amazed at how the foodbank makes such a difference to our local community.
In Year 4 this half term we are learning all about settlements. We thought about what early settlers would need when finding a new place to settle. We looked at the names of different places around the UK and discovered that many of their names come from Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Viking words. We used our map skills to identify these places.

Our year 5 Mini Police members attended the Remembrance Day service and parade in East Boldon. The Police Constables said, “The children were well behaved and a credit to the school.” We are so proud of the children and we know they are extremely excited to work with the Police officers throughout this year.
We have all been learning about the importance of Remembrance day and why we celebrate it. We created beautiful artwork that was displayed in the hall for everybody to see. Today in our special assembly, Year 6 shared some amazing stories about local heroes from South Shields. After the assembly, we held a minute silence to honour and respect the memory of all the men, women and animals who helped fight for our country.
Year 4 learned lots about the Anglo-Saxons at Jarrow Hall. We explored the Anglo-Saxon village learning what the animals were used for and their value. We investigated how herbs were used to make medicines and discovered that some of the Anglo-Saxon treatments are still used today! We then handled artefacts and made deductions and inferences about them. To end our fantastic day we staged our own battle, it was so much fun!
